Michigan State football ended Amon-Ra St. Brown's Michigan recruitment in 2017
I know this is a blog about MSU sports, and trust me there's a connection to the Spartans here, but considering most Michigan State football fans are also Detroit Lions fans, I felt the need to share this fun story.
You Lions fans out there definitely know who Amon-Ra St. Brown is, but to those of you who don't he is the leading wide receiver for the Detroit Lions. The Lions drafted St. Brown out of USC in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he quickly became Detroit's top receiver and one of the leaders of the offense.
Considering he went to USC, us Michigan State fans did not become familiar with who he is until he came to the Lions, but that almost wasn't the case. St. Brown recently shared that he had a lot of interest in going to Michigan while still in high school.
That would have been a disaster because he was an absolute beast both at USC and now in the NFL. But thankfully, Michigan State actually ended his interest in playing at Michigan after he saw the Spartans beat Michigan on an official visit.
In the above video, St. Brown shares that he was on an official visit to Michigan in 2017 when MSU played Michigan in Ann Arbor. I think we all remember that game as the Spartans defeated the top 10 Wolverines in a massive upset 14-10 in a monsoon.
St. Brown shares that he lost all interest in attending Michigan after he saw the Wolverines lose this game.
Who knows how well he would've done at Michigan, but being the Lions fan that I am and knowing how great he is I am extremely glad that Michigan State never had to go up against him. So big shoutout to Mark Dantonio and the dominance he demonstrated over that team down the road, because without it maybe St. Brown likely would've done some damage against MSU over the years.
