Thunderstruck might be back.

Whenever a new head coach begins their tenure at a new school you typically will see them bring new traditions along with them. I don’t think anyone minds that, but fans start to get upset when they begin messing with traditions that have been around for decades.

We saw Mel Tucker attempt to do this with a few aspects of Michigan State football’s pregame routine. The one that stands out the most that upset fans the most is when he changed the pregame entrance song the team ran out onto the field to.

I get what he was trying to do, but the song failed miserably as fans (especially the older fans) were not on board with the selected song.

However, it seems Michigan State is heading back to the song we all know and love: Thunderstruck.

In the above video Michigan State announced what uniforms they would be wearing on Friday night, and they decided to go with a classic set of green jerseys with white pants and a green helmet. But towards the end of the video a song began blasting in the background, and that song was Thunderstruck.

Now I know this isn’t an official announcement, but why else would they play this song? They could’ve chosen any song in the world but decided to go with Thunderstruck, and there’s no way that’s a coincidence.

Now I know this isn’t the biggest change Jonathan Smith could make and it has no direct impact on the game itself, but I am glad that he’s choosing to do so. I think the fanbase will very much welcome this change back to what we’ve been used to for so many years, and I’d argue this will make Spartan nation even more rowdy in the stands. So maybe it will have a small impact on the game.

Some of my favorite memories inside Spartan Stadium is watching the hype video on the jumbotrons as Thunderstruck blasted in the stadium only for the team to come running on the field at the peak of the song. I can only imagine how much more hype it is for the players coming out of the tunnel.

So good on Smith for making this change and I can’t wait for my ears to be blasted with the sweet sounds of Thunderstruck once again.
