Week 2 is the perfect opportunity for Michigan State football to wipe away the concerns after Week 1 where the Spartans struggled to put away FAU.

While you take a 16-10 win even if it was ugly, Michigan State is looking to improve, win or lose. The Spartans will get that opportunity to improve against a tough Maryland team on the road. The Terrapins will be a nice test for Jonathan Smith and Co., but this team could pull off the road upset.

Obviously, Vegas wasn't high on the Spartans after the 16-10 opener against FAU. The Spartans opened up as comfortable underdogs against the Terrapins and that's where they remain on the morning of game day.

In fact, here are the final odds for Michigan State football vs. Maryland, per DraftKings, as of Saturday, Sept. 7:

Line: Maryland -8.5
Over/Under: 44.5
Moneyline: Maryland -325 | Michigan State +260

None of these odds are surprising. The Terrapins should be two-score favorites and the line shouldn't be that high because, well, Michigan State hasn't proven that it can score. There is some value here for a Michigan State upset, but I'd go safe and pick the Spartans to cover the spread.

Michigan State is going to keep this one close thanks to a big game from Aidan Chiles and a nice bounce-back from Nate Carter. Chiles is going to approach 300 yards through the air with no interceptions and Carter will break the 100-yard mark. The offense will look competent.

But Maryland will get the last laugh, 27-24.

It'll be a tough loss for Jonathan Smith and the Spartans, but an encouraging performance.
