This is a fun new tradition that Jonathan Smith appears to be starting for Michigan State football. The Spartans are coming off a close 16-10 win over Florida Atlantic Friday night, and fans have been debating as to who the best player was on Friday.

However, there's one man's opinion that matters the most and that is Smith who just released his players of the game on offense, defense, special teams, and out of the linemen.

Defensive Player of the Game: Cal Haladay

I must admit that Cal Haladay is an interesting choice for defensive player of the game as both Angelo Grose and Khris Bogle were two guys who stood out to me. But it's Smith's list so who am I to argue?

Haladay is a name we all know as he has come up with many big plays throughout his career. He maybe didn't have a huge play in this game, but he was solid all night long finishing with five tackles and one tackle for loss.

The linebacker room is one of the deepest positions for Michigan State this season, so if Haladay can continue to impress like he did on Friday then the defense should continue to play well.

Offensive Player of the Game: Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams

Was there really any option for Smith to select for offensive player of the game? Not much went Michigan State's way on the offensive side of the ball, but the one thing that did was running back transfer Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams.

Lynch-Adams may have only received nine carries on Friday, but he made the most of them by going for 101 yards. He also had the second touchdown of the game when he burst threw a hole for 63 yards.

MSU now has a competition on their hands as Nate Carter struggled to get going running the ball. But for now, it looks like MSU has two solid options at running back this season.

Special Teams Player of the Game: Kaden Schickel

Special teams player of the game goes to long snapper Kaden Schickel. I may have gone with punter Ryan Eckely, but I'm fine with Schickel getting the nod this game.

It's not often you see a long snapper get a tackle, but Schickel actually got two against Florida Atlantic on Friday. On top of that, he did not have one bad snap all game, which is easy to take advantage of as fans.

Lineman of the Game: D'Quan Douse

Lineman of the game is also a very easy choice for Smith considering nobody on the offensive line played particularly well. The decision is made especially easy when the defense gets a safety for the first points of the season.

Lineman D'Quan Douse was the defender who got Michigan State on the board this season in the first quarter with his sack of the quarterback.

Douse totaled five tackles overall and was impactful all game and was one of the reasons the Spartans' defense was so dominant Friday night.
