Michigan State basketball: Steven Izzo scores first career points in epic fashion
What a game. Michigan State basketball picked up a 73-55 win over Rutgers after pulling away in the second half. It was just what the doctor ordered after a 9-7 start to the year and a 1-4 record in Big Ten play.
The game really had it all from Coen Carr dunks to strong rebounding to Xavier Booker buckets to even a Steven Izzo and-one.
That's right, Izzo scored his first career basket as a Spartan and it came in unbelievable fashion. The senior walk-on and son of Tom Izzo took a defender off the dribble, made a move toward the basket, and threw up a prayer with under a minute left and it was answered. The ball dropped in and he drew a foul after it hung on the rim for what felt like an eternity.
Just watch the incredible bucket here:
Steven was immediately greeted by Tyson Walker who sprinted off the bench to the sideline where he laid on the ground after the foul. The rest of the Spartan bench joined him as Jaden Akins and AJ Hoggard were jumping up and down with excitement.
And then Steven made his way over to his dad where the two shared a hug and a smile before the walk-on finished his three-point play with a free throw.
Michigan State fans were beside themselves after the ball went in the basket as it felt like the roof was about the explode off the Breslin Center.
This was one of the most memorable moments of the season and of the past few years.
