It's officially football season, but in a little over a month, we'll all be looking forward to some Michigan State basketball. The Spartans will open the season in Northern Michigan against Tom Izzo's alma mater for an exhibition before a two week break until the next exhibition game.

On Tuesday, Michigan State unveiled its official 2024-25 non-conference basketball schedule.

And it's going to be as tough as it usually is.

The two exhibition games will be interesting as we can see how far this team has come since the Spain trip where it went 2-1 against professional teams.

And then the regular season opens on Nov. 3 against Monmouth at home. The Spartans will get Monmouth and Niagara before partaking in the annual Champions Classic game on Nov. 12, but this year they'll get Kansas instead of Duke or Kentucky. It's going to be a tough matchup as the Jayhawks are one of the best teams in the country and will be national title contenders again.

After the Champions Classic, Michigan State will host Tum Tum Nairn and Bowling Green on Nov. 16 and then Samford on Nov. 19. Those two games serve as a buffer before heading to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational on Nov. 25 where the Spartans play Colorado in the first round and then either UConn or Memphis in the second round. The title game, third-place game, or fifth-place game will be against either North Carolina, Auburn, Iowa State, or Dayton.

Non-conference play will resume about three weeks later against Oakland -- after a couple of conference games -- at Little Caesars Arena before hosting FAU and Western Michigan before Big Ten play.

This is going to be a tough non-conference slate yet again.
