Tom Izzo has made some really solid hires lately for Michigan State basketball and that includes the grad assistants.

Izzo has hired Cassius Winston's brother as an assistant, he landed Saddi Washington, and now he's hiring former Oakland star Blake Lampman as a grad assistant.

The news broke on Tuesday afternoon.

Lampman played the last five years for Izzo's good friend Greg Kampe at Oakland and scored over 1,000 career points while shooting 33 percent from 3-point range. He helped lead the Golden Grizzlies to a cinderella run in this past year's NCAA Tournament and was part of the most successful postseason run in school history.

It's great to add someone with recent playing experience to the staff who can relate to the players and help with the 3-point shooting aspect of the team.

While Lampman only shot 33 percent from deep in his career, he did make a career-best 36 percent of his threes this past season on 8.5 attempts per game. So he wasn't shy about taking the shots and Michigan State always had to guard him tightly because he was a threat to get hot from deep and the Haslett, Mich., native went 4-for-10 against the Spartans from long-range this past season.

Izzo is building quite the staff with Lampman now able to help out as a recent Division 1 athlete to go along with Washington who should be taking charge of the bigs.

I don't know about you, but I'm getting more and more excited about the 2024-25 season.
