Michigan State basketball: 3 bold predictions for rematch with Michigan
It's that time of the season again, folks. Michigan State basketball will get another shot at beating Michigan in Ann Arbor and this is something that hasn't happened since Cassius Winston was in town.
Juwan Howard nay be directly on the hot seat, but that hasn't stopped him from defending home court against the Spartans throughout his tenure.
The Spartans are looking for their first season sweep since Cassius. So let's get bold.
3. MSU holds Michigan under 30 percent from deep
The last time these two teams met in East Lansing, it felt like everything Michigan threw up from deep in the first half went in. Guys like Nimari Burnett and Terrance Williams were hitting whatever they heaved from deep and while that didn't quite continue in the second half, the Wolverines still shot 40 percent from 3-point range which is better than their season average.
In fact, Michigan shoots about 36 percent from deep on the season and that made the 8-for-20 shooting against Michigan State that much more frustrating.
The Spartans have really struggled with their perimeter defense lately as it seems like teams are figuring out that they like to double in the post and leave a guy open from deep almost every single time. Screens also usually leave the Spartans scrambling despite having a solid defense. Michigan took full advantage in the first meeting.
But they won't do so here. The Spartans will hold Michigan under its season average from deep even with Dug McDaniel playing. I'm going with just under 30 percent.
