As a Michigan State fan, there isn’t much better than beating Michigan. It’s super exciting in any sport, from basketball and football as well as baseball.

Michigan State baseball took on the Wolverines in a three game series this weekend in East Lansing, and the Spartans defeated the Wolverines in dramatic fashion to win their first series over Michigan since 2016.

Each game of this series was action packed, beginning Friday night in an extra innings thriller. Michigan State won 3-2 in 10 innings thanks to a walk off sac fly by junior Nick Williams. In a night when the Spartans' offense struggled to get going, it was Michigan State’s pitching that dominated the game that allowed the bats to win it in extras.

Moving on to Saturday afternoon and game two of the series, the Spartan’s bats finally woke up. Unfortunately for Michigan State, so did Michigan's. MSU hit three home runs in the game, including two in the bottom of the eighth when the game was tied 8-8. Michigan State held on to win 12-8 and clinch their first series over Michigan since 2016.

The series finale wasn’t kind to Michigan State on Sunday as the Wolverines won a 12-inning thriller 10-8. But the Spartans were the better team this weekend and are now 3-1 against Michigan this season thanks to a dominant 16-6 win earlier this season.

Michigan State moves to 21-23 (9-9) on the season and are still in position to make the Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans take on Bowling Green on Tuesday before their next Big Ten weekend series at Minnesota this coming weekend.
