Michigan State football has long had a storied history of significant figures in college football. From players, to coaches both have had a major impact on the sport in one way or another.

That can be said about Mark Dantonio. Not only did he bring the Spartans back to prominence he did something that had been done at the school since the 1960s. When he arrived to East Lansing in 2007, Michigan State hadn't been to a bowl game since 2003.

Dantonio quickly made an impact winning seven games in his first season on the sidelines in Spartan Stadium. From there he quickly turned the Michigan State-Michigan Rivalry in favor of the green and white, beating Michigan four consecutive times from 2008-2011. He followed it up with four more victories over the Wolverines in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 ending 8-5 overall against Michigan.

It was also during that time, that he led the Spartans to a Big Ten title for the first time since 1990. He followed it up with two more Big Ten Titles in 2013 and 2015. From 2013-2015 the Spartans finished top five in the country all three years, which hadn't been done since the Duffy Daugherty days.

Dantonio passed Duffy for the most wins in Michigan State football history in 2019, as he finished his 13-year Spartan coaching career with a 114-57 record, three Big Ten titles, six bowl victories including the 2014 Rose Bowl, and 2015 Cotton Bowl.

His career was outstanding, and all that hardwork payed off as he was officially announced to be enducted into the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. With that honor also comes a very special honor at Michigan State.

Michigan State AD Allan Haller, made it official that Dantonio's name will be added to the ring of Honor on Sept. 28 during the Spartans' game against Ohio State.

Mark has meant so much to Michigan State, Spartan fans, and to myself -- I cannot wait to be there to see his name go up in Spartan Stadium. It is so deserved.

From someone who first went to an MSU football game in 2008 against Iowa, to having season tickets starting in 2012, to have been able to see all the success Dantonio had in person is something I will forever cherish.

This honor is well deserved Coach D. Thank you for all the memories and congratulations on the Hall of Fame and taking your place alongside Biggie and Duffy.
