Michigan State football is off to a perfect 3-0 start after their demolition of Prairie View A&M on Saturday 40-0. Their reward? A primetime matchup on the road against a Boston College team that looks much better than people expected.

Can Jonathan Smith get Michigan State to 4-0? We'll find out soon enough. But before the game gets here let's take a look at Boston College and see what we can learn about the Eagles.

Boston College season recap

Boston College enters this game with a 2-1 record which may not sound like anything that spectacular, but the Eagles may just be one of the best 2-1 teams in the country.

The Eagles opened their season on the road at Florida State, a game they won convincingly 28-13. I know Florida State has turned out to be one of the worst teams in the country, but that is still a very impressive win in my books.

After that solid win the Eagles destroyed Duquesne at home 56-0 before losing on the road to No. 7 Missouri 27-21. Boston College actually jumped out to an early lead in this game, but Missouri was able to claw their way back and win a close one in the end.

Heading into this season I wasn't that fearful of this game, I however am a little nervous now as Vegas has opened the spread in favor of Boston College by 6.5 points. This will be a tough game to win, but I still think it's one that MSU has every chance to come out on top in.

Key players to watch

Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos is going to be a problem to defend. So far this season he has completed nearly 65 percent of his passes while throwing for nine touchdowns and only two interceptions. He's also added another touchdown on the ground showing that he isn't just a threat in the air.

Wide receiver Lewis Bond leads the Eagles receivers with 10 receptions for 156 yards this season. Not the most impressive numbers for a team's leading pass-catcher, but he is someone that can pick a defense apart. Michigan State's defense will also have to keep an eye on freshman receiver Reed Harris. He may only have three catches this season, but he has big play potential anytime the ball is thrown to him as he has 72 and 67-yard touchdowns already this season.

As mentioned, Castellanos will have to be contained on the ground as well as he has the second most carries on this Eagles team, but running back Treshaun Ward will have to be watched closely as well. Ward has 153 rushing yards on the season at a 5.9 yards per carry clip. So Ward isn't used too often, but when Boston College hands him the ball it tends to work out very well for them.

Michigan State will have to bring their best if they want to win this game, thankfully I think they will be able to do just that behind the heroics of Aidan Chiles and a stellar performance from Michigan State's defense.
