Jordan Turner had historically good game vs. Ohio State
Michigan State may have lost to Ohio State on Saturday by 31 points, but there were surprisingly some positives to take from the lopsided 38-7 defeat in East Lansing.
One of those positives was senior linebacker Jordan Turner.
The Wisconsin transfer had his best game as a Spartan against the No. 3 team in the nation and what he was able to do against the Buckeyes hasn't been done by any defender in years.
In fact, Turner recorded a 90.5 grade on Pro Football Focus which was fourth out of all FBS linebackers in Week 5 and it was the highest game grade of any MSU player against OSU in the PFF era (since 2014), according to Al Karsten. It was also the highest grade of any defensive player against OSU since 2022 when Jack Campbell put up a 90-plus grade.
And for those who watched the game, this makes sense. Turner was all over the field and looked like the best player on the defensive side of the ball for the Spartans. He finished with a season-high nine tackles to go along with an interception and he nearly forced and recovered a fumble on TreVeyon Henderson but it was ruled that the ground caused the fumble so it was kept by Ohio State.
While the Spartans surrendered 38 points and looked like they couldn't stop the Buckeyes at points, that was no fault of Turner's. He was one of the best players in the country last week.
If we can get this version of Turner for the rest of the year, not only will he be an All-Big Ten selection and a feel-good success story, but the Spartans will have no problem getting to a bowl game.
