Here we are, folks. This is the first official visit weekend of the Jonathan Smith era at Michigan State is upon us and it's going to kick off the rest of the visitor slate.

While there aren't a ton of high-profile recruits on campus this weekend and there are just a handful of four-stars coming to East Lansing through the next month, this first official visit weekend is going to set the tone for the rest of the summer.

Michigan State needs to get the 2025 class going and it's already off to a solid start with Leo Hannan leading the way. He's one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the country and he might flirt with four-star status by the end of the cycle and I wouldn't be surprised to see him garner interest from other programs before the class closes.

Smith is also taking a different approach than Mel Tucker did when it comes to official visits. He's not going to be rolling out expensive cars and getting goats on the field for photoshoots, but he's getting guys on campus that fit his system and he could legitimately get to commit while they're on campus. This is a sustainable approach while Tucker's was a lot of swings and misses.

Michigan State should benefit from the new approach by Smith and this new era should return the Spartans back to relevance.

This weekend is going to set the tone for the rest of the summer. A couple of commits would go a long way.
