Jonathan Smith provides injury update for starting LB Jordan Hall
Unfortunately for Michigan State this season, the injury bug has been a major talking point. The Spartans got hit early and often with significant injuries as well as some minor ones as well.
One player in particular who looked close to making a return for the Oregon game was linebacker Jordan Hall. He was listed as questionable heading into the game and was even seen fully dressed and going through warmups ahead of the game Friday night. But Hall never saw the field which brought into question where his health actually is.
Jonathan Smith addressed this in his postgame press conference saying Hall was “close” to playing. My guess is that this was done as a precaution to keep Hall in good health for the rest of the season. Smith also went on to confirm that this injury isn’t long term either.
I was extremely hopeful that Hall would play on Friday, but in the grand scheme of things it ended up being the right choice to sit him because his presence likely wasn’t going to change the outcome of the game. But still, when you have a young player as talented as Hall you don’t want him to miss any time, and thankfully it looks like he’ll probably be back for homecoming against Iowa.
While the bye week is never fun for us fans, it does come at a convenient time halfway through the season when Michigan State needs to get their guys some rest. Looking at Hall specifically it seems very apparent that he will be back in time for the Spartans next game especially with this extra week of rest.
I already detailed how close he was to returning on Friday in Oregon, so Hall likely would be a full go this coming weekend if MSU had a game. But the extra week off makes it a guarantee in my eyes that he will be back for the Iowa game as long as a new injury doesn’t surface.
So fingers crossed that’s what happens for Hall as well as some of the other guys on the Spartans’ injury report.
