Jonathan Kim has been playing at All-American level for Michigan State football

Four games into the year, there's been one Michigan State football player who has been better than advertised and may actually be an All-American candidate when it's all said and done.

That player is senior kicker Jonathan Kim.

The veteran kicker has been the most consistent player on the team through four weeks and he's knocked through a perfect 8-for-8 field goals this season, including 2-for-2 from 50-plus yards out. He did miss an extra point against Prairie View A&M but that was the lone blemish on the season for the senior transfer from North Carolina.

A year ago, he was a solid 13-for-18 on field goals and 17-for-17 on extra points, but as you can see, there wasn't a ton of scoring to be had for him or the Spartans. He's on pace to have double the number of extra-point tries this season and six more field goal attempts.

Against Boston College when the offense was moving the ball but not finishing drives, Kim stepped up and went 4-for-4 on field goals with a long of 51 yards. Is that impressive? Absolutely when you consider he was kicking in a monsoon and still drilled one from over 50 yards away.

If Kim keeps this up, he's going to wind up being a finalist for the Lou Groza Award and he's going to help Michigan State win some games.

Everything changes for a team if the kicker is reliable and that's what Kim has been in a Spartan uniform for the past two years. He's 21-of-26 on field goals as a Spartan (6-for-9 from 50-plus) and that's after a career at North Carolina in which he attempted just one field goal.

The Spartans have a good one.
