Jeremy Fears shares impressive injury update
All is finally well again in the Michigan State basketball universe as star point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. is seemingly back to full health. We learned this just this past week when MSU announced that Fears will fully participate in the team’s upcoming trip to Spain.
However, we’ve never heard much from Fears directly about his recovery. We’ve heard a lot from head coach Tom Izzo about how his point guard has been doing, but I’ve always wanted to hear it from Fears himself.
Thankfully for us, Fears spoke with the media on Monday ahead of the team’s trip to Spain and he detailed some pretty remarkable progress as he recovers from his leg injury.
Fears himself shared that he is now able to go through a full 2-3 hour practice without any issues whatsoever. With that being the case, it’s abundantly clear that he is 100 percent healthy and back to normal. We all know that Izzo’s practices push his team harder than they get pushed in actual games, so if Fears can make it through that then he will not have any issues during games when the season rolls around.
But the most wild thing Fears shared is that he feels stronger than he did before his injury.
In all honesty, I find that pretty hard to believe, but when thinking about it more I realize that Fears has nothing to gain from lying. So if this is what he’s saying it must be true.
Words can’t even express how insanely impressive that is. Just eight months ago Fears suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. That is not an easy thing to come back from in general, but to be even healthier now than he was before the injury as a Division 1 athlete is nothing short of a miracle.
I’ve never been more excited to see one player play in a season than I am for Fears. After everything he’s been through, he deserves to have a big season this year with the support of the entire fanbase (and country).
And I do not doubt that Michigan State’s fanbase will be fully behind him, and the roar from the crowd when he takes the floor at the Breslin Center for the first game this year will potentially be the biggest reaction we’ve ever seen.
