Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has quickly become a fan favorite amongst Lions fans. And considering a majority of Michigan State football fans are also Lions fans I know of the many conversations that took place at Michigan State tailgates last year during the magical Lions season.

If you don’t know much about Goff’s background, he’s the definition of a California boy. He went to high school in California before playing college ball at Cal and then got drafted to the Los Angeles Rams.

After being traded to the Lions in 2021, Goff had an interesting decision to make. Who would he support in the rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State?

Goff could’ve picked either team considering he had zero allegiances, but with how vocal Lions fans are they wouldn’t let him pick neither team and sit right in the middle of the rivalry.

Goff was on a recent podcast episode of Bussin’ With The Boys and he discussed this topic and what went into his decision.

Unfortunately for Michigan State fans, Goff said that he sides with Michigan in the rivalry. However, it does sound like he isn’t a huge fan or anything, just casually supports Michigan now that he lives in the state.

While this made me a little sad at first, Goff’s reasoning is pretty straightforward. He said the reason he chose Michigan over Michigan State is simply because Detroit, where he lives now, is much closer to Ann Arbor and its fanbase than East Lansing.

That answer gave me a big sigh of relief. Sure the quarterback I cheer for on Sundays is a small Michigan fan, but at the end of the day, he didn’t choose them for any reason that would make me upset. We just got a little unlucky that Detroit isn’t closer to East Lansing.
