One of the best tight ends in the country resides in East Lansing. Michigan State football fans haven't heard a phrase like that since Josiah Price was still on campus so it's rather refreshing.

Price was the last Spartan tight end to really have a major effect on the offensive side of the ball even though Maliq Carr showed flashes over the past couple of seasons and Matt Dotson, too, showed some promise. But now Jack Velling is making headlines as one of the top tight ends in the Big Ten and one of the best in the country.

Don't believe me? Well, 247Sports released their preseason All-Transfer team for the 2024 season and Velling was the tight end representative.

Chance Linton of 247Sports wrote that Velling was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection last year and his decision to follow Jonathan Smith and Brian Lindgren from Oregon State to Michigan State is going to pay off because he'll remain in a tight end-centric offense. This selection as the all-transfer team's tight end makes sense as he led the nation in touchdown catches at the position.

Velling has some sky-high expectations to meet this season and if his rapport with Aidan Chiles is as good as we all think it'll be, he's going to meet every single one, and then some.

Fortunately for Chiles, the weight of the offense is not on his shoulders as there's plenty more in the way of skill position players. Heck, not even the tight end room rests solely on his shoulders as Michael Masunas has been getting some hype, Brennan Parachek is a rising star, and Tyneil Hopper has been touted as a comeback player of the year candidate.

Velling leads a talented group, but we're not the only ones who believe he could be one of the best tight ends in college football this season.
