Former Michigan State football TE signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers
As football season inches closer all eyes are on our favorite sports teams as they prepare for the season ahead. Whether that be Michigan State football or our favorite NFL teams we can all be excited because the end of the offseason is almost here.
Speaking of the NFL, a lot of former Spartans are gearing up for their next season in the pros, and one more Spartan was just added to that list who the Pittsburgh Steelers just signed.
Former Michigan State tight end Matt Sokol has officially signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the upcoming season.
Sokol was a solid tight end for Michigan State and spent four years in East Lansing. He spent most of his time on special teams his first two years but then went on to make 23 starts during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Throughout his Michigan State career, Sokol accounted for 31 catches for 348 yards and two touchdowns.
Sokol then went undrafted in the 2019 draft but was signed to the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. From there he bounced around the league to five other teams before ending up with the New England Patriots in 2022.
Sokol spent the last two years with the Patriots mainly on their practice squad, but he did get called up and play in three games towards the end of this past season.
Now as a free agent, Sokol has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the upcoming season.
He likely will initially be in a practice squad role with the Steelers once again, but he already proved that he can work his way up to the roster once so why can’t he do it again?
The NFL season is right around the corner and hopefully we will get to see Sokol, along with every other Spartan in the NFL, do well in the league this season.
