Big Ten Media Days are in full swing this week and that means one thing.

Michigan State football is officially back.

Media days is when we finally get to hear both Jonathan Smith and some MSU players discuss the upcoming season. It also means that fall camp is getting ready to begin which is the greatest sign of all that the season is getting ready to begin.

But another thing that comes with media days is preseason predictions. The Big Ten football preseason media predictions were just released on Monday, and it’s safe to say that Michigan State was ranked far too low.

I know that the team and coaching staff are brand new, but Michigan State coming in at No. 16 in the Big Ten feels way too low to me. And I’m unsurprisingly not the only one who feels that way either.

Michigan State defensive back Charles Brantley also weighed in on this ranking, and he sounds more upset about it than me.

If I were to put myself in the player’s shoes, I probably wouldn’t pay much too attention to these rankings. After all, they really don’t matter at the end of the day. But when a ranking this disrespectful is given to Michigan State, it’s nearly impossible to ignore.

There is a positive from this, and that is that Michigan State can now use this as motivation this season. Will they be the best team in the conference and compete for a Big Ten championship this season? Probably not, and deep down the team probably knows that too. But they also know they aren’t a bottom three team in the conference either.

Somewhere in the middle of the pack in the Big Ten seems more realistic to me. And a seven-win season (which is definitely possible) would do just that.

So hopefully the team uses this as bulletin board material and extra motivation to try and prove everyone wrong.
