Bryce Baringer proves to be elite dual-sport athlete
If you're anything like me, you're trying to forget the Mel Tucker era (well, maybe outside of that 2021 season). But there were a few Michigan State football players that will never be forgotten from that era and one of them happens to be a punter: Bryce Baringer.
Yes, the star punter from the Tucker era was actually a fan favorite and probably should have won the Ray Guy Award in 2022 but he was robbed.
Still, he found his way into the NFL draft and was selected by the New England Patriots where he averaged about 47 yards per punt which may have been good for just 20th in the NFL, but you have to take into account the number of punts he had as well as the coffin corners he was responsible for hitting on short fields. In fact, he had a whopping 38 of his 98 punts land inside the 20-yard-line which was No. 1 in the NFL.
The star punter had a solid rookie year on the gridiron, but football is apparently not the only sport he excels at.
In fact, he loved golf in high school and nearly pursued that, but decided to play college football. It looks like he still has plenty of golf skill as he showed up to the Massachusetts Amateur Qualifying round on Tuesday and took first place, shooting a 69.
This is crazy impressive when you consider he's a world-class punter in the NFL. He just shows up to golf tournaments and wins first place and qualifies for championship rounds. Unreal.
Baringer is just good at everything he does.
