Big Ten Media Days has come and gone, meaning that there’s only one thing remaining between Michigan State football and their first season under Jonathan Smith.

Fall camp.

Fall camp is set to begin this Tuesday, July 30, and it may be the most anticipated camp in quite some time.

There’s so much to look forward to this season and throughout fall camp, but here are the top five things I’ll be watching for over the next few weeks.

1. Aidan Chiles taking over the team

The most important thing for me to see during fall camp is Aidan Chiles taking the team over. This doesn’t just mean to win the starting job with ease (which shouldn’t be a problem for him) but he needs to become a leader of the team.

It’s unlikely he’ll be named a captain as a true sophomore, but his leadership and they way he handles himself needs to make it seem like he is one.

I also want to see Chiles play extremely well during live portions of fall camp. It’s no secret that Michigan State’s defense won’t be elite this season, so if Chiles is going to play well against quality defenses during the season he needs to do very well against his own defense during practice.

For Michigan State to have a good season, Chiles needs to be firing on all cylinders. From his play on the field to his leadership qualities off of it, he needs to be elite. And I have no doubt that he will show that this fall and throughout the season.
