Down 7-1 in the first few minutes of the game, it felt like yet another disappointing showing for Michigan State basketball, this time in the Big Ten Tournament with NCAA Tournament hopes on the line. The Spartans finally perked up and jousted back-and-forth with Minnesota for the remainder of the half, going into the locker room down by two.

The second half was mostly Michigan State as the Spartans got hot with a late 15-2 run and cruised to a 77-67 run. It was one of those "put up or shut up" halves and the Spartans delivered.

It was nice to see this team respond after getting punched in the mouth and it likely punches its ticket to the NCAA Tournament with this win over the 18-14 Gophers.

What'd we learn?

3. This is Tre Holloman's team next year

Watching Tre Holloman return to his home state for the Big Ten Tournament has been fun so far. The sophomore point guard was a problem for the Gophers all afternoon long on both ends of the floor.

And he was even chosen as the Big Ten Network's post-game interview.

Holloman was all over the floor with nine points on 3-for-3 shooting with four assists, a rebound, two steals, and a block. He stuffed the stat sheet and was one of the main reasons the Spartans were able to reclaim the lead in the second half and build on it. He was an impressive +12 on the afternoon.

It was clear that Holloman was comfortable in that leadership role in the second half and it looks like he's going to be the main guy in 2024-25. This will be his team next year along with Jeremy Fears Jr.
