The final night of Moneyball is upon us and that means we get to crown a team champion and MVP. And I’ll be honest, both the champion and MVP would’ve been one of my last guesses at the start of Moneyball.

So let’s just jump right in starting with the king of Moneyball this summer while giving some love to a couple of other Michigan State basketball players who played well Thursday night.

1. Kur Teng MVP of Moneyball

With Thursday being the last night of Moneyball for the summer, this means that we got to watch the semifinals and championship games. And the team that won would not have been anyone’s prediction at the start of Moneyball.

The two Spartans on Team Goodfellas featured Kur Teng and Szymon Zapala, who by no means are the best duo of Spartans. An incoming freshman and transfer big man didn’t strike anyone as a threat to win Moneyball, but they proved us all wrong thanks to the heroics of Teng.

Not only did Teng dominate Thursday night scoring 25 and 21 points in their two games, but Teng was also named Moneyball MVP this summer.

Now I know this is only Moneyball, but to see an incoming freshman win MVP is awesome. Usually the freshmen don’t play nearly as well as the upperclassmen on the team, but that wasn’t the case with Teng. He came in from the first night and proved that he belonged and got better and better as the summer went on.

Will this translate to a lot of playing time this winter? Probably not. But the future is bright for Teng once he gets acclimated to the college game.
