Saturday has been all about Michigan State‘s offensive line, and given the offseason that it’s had thus far, it deserves the positive attention for once.

New offensive line coach Nick Tabacca just landed the highest-ranked recruit in the Spartans’ 2027 class and he’s now at least partially responsible for three of the top four Michigan State commits. Caleb Johnson was the cherry on top of an already-solid offensive line class that featured Grant Adloff (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Jack Carlson (Brighton, Mich.).

Picking up a commitment from an Indiana native with the Hoosiers pushing for him was a good sign for the future of the offensive line.

But so was the release of Phile Steele’s preseason All-Big Ten teams.

The college football expert who puts out one of the best college football preview magazines every summer recently shared his All-Big Ten teams for 2026, and Michigan State is actually well-represented for the first time in about a decade. Also for the first time in a decade, Michigan State looks like it’s going to have one of the best offensive lines in the conference — at least one of the most improved.

Steele’s All-Big Ten teams hinted that Michigan State’s line is due for a breakout in 2026.

Three preseason All-Big Ten second-team selections on the offensive line. That’s right, you read that correctly: three. The Spartans have had a solid offensive lineman here and there over the past few years with guys like Luke Newman and Matt Gulbin but the line has been overall disappointing and ineffective.

If Steele is right about anything (which he definitely is), year is going to be different — much different. Michigan State was represented by Trent Fraley, Ben Murawski, and Conner Moore on the second-team All-Big Ten offensive line.

You’d probably have to go back to the Jack Conklin and Jack Allen days to see the last time that Michigan State had multiple All-Big Ten candidates along the offensive line.

In case you can’t tell, I’m pumped about this group.

Michigan State’s offensive line might be entering a golden era

I know I probably need to pump the brakes and temper my expectations a bit, but this offensive line is looking scary ahead of the 2026 season. And the future isn’t too bad either.

These guys are already on the roster and have starting talent, in my opinion:

  • Nick Sharpe, 6th year (South Carolina transfer)
  • Rakeem Johnson, Sophomore
  • Conner Moore, Senior
  • Trent Fraley, Senior (North Dakota State transfer)
  • Luka Vincic, Senior (Oregon State transfer)
  • Robert Wright Jr., Junior (Georgia Southern transfer)
  • Rustin Young, Sophomore
  • Ben Murawski, Senior (UConn transfer)
  • Andrew Dennis, Sophomore

These linemen could eventually join the rotation, but maybe not this season:

  • Antonio Johnson, Freshman (RS)
  • Eli Bickel, Freshman
  • Drew Nichols, Freshman (RS)
  • Collin Campbell, Freshman
  • Tristan Comer, Freshman
  • Jack Ziarko, Freshman

And finally, here are the 2027 class commits along the offensive line:

  • Caleb Johnson, 4-star (No. 213)
  • Jack Carlson, 3-star (No. 516)
  • Grant Adloff, 3-star (No. 760)

Again, I need to stop getting too far ahead of myself, but this looks like the group that’s going to start the resurgence of Michigan State’s offensive line. We’ll revisit this article again in November.
