It didn’t take Michigan State football coach Pat Fitzgerald long to land his first transfer portal commitment.
The first-year head coach has only been on the job for about a month and the portal has been open for just a few days, and he’s already landed his first transfer.
And he’s not done on the day.
Fitzgerald has scheduled over a dozen visits already, and on Sunday afternoon, he landed his first commitment in the form of UConn offensive tackle Ben Murawski.

Murawski is officially the first transfer commitment of the Fitzgerald era, and he’s a good one. He is one of the top offensive linemen in the portal, ranked the No. 9 offensive tackle according to 247Sports. He’s also the No. 156 overall transfer in the country.
This is a massive get for Fitzgerald and the Spartans at a serious position of need.
Ben Murawski is exactly what Michigan State needs
With AJ Dennis opting to return as well as Conner Moore and the likely returns of Rustin Young and Luka Vincic, Michigan State will have a strong start to its offensive line group. The Spartans also bring in four-star offensive tackle Collin Campbell with the 2026 class.
It’s also good to see that he’s an elite run blocker, rated as the third-best in the country last season by Pro Football Focus.
This is a great get for Michigan State to pair with Moore, Young, Vincic, and Dennis, among others. While the Spartans did lose Stanton Ramil, Gavin Broscious, the Luniewski twins, and Kristian Phillips, this commitment was critical for Nick Tabacca and the rest of the offensive line. The Spartans needed to land a big-time starting-caliber offensive tackle.
Murawski paved the way for a 1,200-yard rusher, Cam Edwards, who will be visiting Michigan State on Monday.
The first domino in the Spartans’ 2026 transfer portal class has fallen, and it looks like Fitzgerald isn’t done. He’s teased more commitments on Sunday afternoon, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Michigan State signed a massive class in the portal.
Michigan State’s offensive line just got a whole lot better with the addition of Murawski.
