It's officially transfer portal season and that affects every team in the country, including Michigan State football, especially with rosters being trimmed down per NCAA rules.
In case you haven't heard by now, the NCAA is implementing a new "105 rule" which means that teams will now have a roster limit of 105 players opposed to the previous limit of 121. That means the Spartans will have to trim their roster down this offseason in order to hit that mark. It's also going to leave a lot of former walk-ons and lesser-recruited players in the portal for good.
I'm not sure about you, but I hate this rule because it now limits the use of walk-ons.
The game is changing and head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff need to adjust. They're already working on their roster for the 2025 season and there's already been movement.
Michigan State coaches will likely be meeting with players over the course of the next couple of weeks to talk about their futures with the program and if they don't have a clear path to playing time, they can probably say their goodbyes.
It's not just players who aren't good enough leaving, either, it's also guys who feel like their time in East Lansing has run out and they're better off finding new homes.
With all of the movement that's already happened and the impending transfer announcements, I figured it was the perfect time to throw together an official offseason portal tracker for incoming and outgoing spring transfers.
Without further ado, let's get to the transfers.
