As a Michigan State alum, I can say that there is one common insult that I hear often on social media from burner accounts or rival fans who couldn’t get in: MSU is a glorified community college.

And as someone who enjoyed school at Michigan State and learned a ton throughout the process, I can say wholeheartedly that the academics insult is baseless. The smartest people I know were my classmates at Michigan State and some of the smartest people that I’ve ever met have a Spartan degree. There’s no weight to the claim that Michigan State is a poor academic school.

I went to Michigan State, majored in journalism, got an internship right out of college, and was hired full-time out in California within six months of graduating and right after my internship ended. It’s safe to say that a Michigan State degree is worth a little more than your rival friends lead you to believe.

Michigan State fans, students, and alumni will all tell you that the education you get in East Lansing is some of the best in the country in terms of public universities.

Well, it looks like we’ve all been vindicated and our rivals are now scrambling to find a new personal insult. Michigan State’s official Twitter account shared a new public university ranking that has it in the top 30 in the United States.

Are you really surprised? I’m not (obviously).

For reference, there are over 1,600 public colleges and universities in the United States and 780 of them are four-year universities which means that Michigan State is in the top four-ish percent in the country in terms of public universities and man, that just crushes the age-old “can’t read, can’t write” insult that we’ve heard since the dawn of time.

Michigan State has a great vet school, it’s packaging program is elite and nationally-renowned, and it’s one of the best schools for education (AKA future teachers).

No, this isn’t “Moo U” anymore, this is a distinguished, respected university with top 30 academics, historically great football and basketball programs, and one of the most beautiful campuses that you’ll ever lay eyes on. Let them call you “Sharty” of dub East Lansing “East Landfill”, just know that you went to one of the best public universities in the country.

They’re running out of insults.
