In the era of the transfer portal, players have gone from one school to it's rival on several occasions. However, this is a different type of change for Michigan State’s new offensive coordinator.
Nick Sheridan has made a name for himself in the coaching ranks, previously working at Alabama and Washington, where he helped develop quarterbacks like Michael Penix Jr., among others.
Though he and head coach Pat Fitzgerald never really knew each other personally, a connection was made very quickly when Fitz reached out. He gave Sheridan a chance to be the offensive coordinator for the Spartans, not to mention make his return home to the state of Michigan.
Nick Sheridan is back home — in a weird way
Yes, Sheridan is a Michigan native. The only downside to it, in a funny way, was that Sheridan was a walk-on quarterback at — you guessed it — Michigan.
Don't let that get in the way of what Nick will bring to the Spartans.
In fact, he's more than appreciative of this opportunity. His first real thoughts about the job came during the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association's annual clinic in Battle Creek.
"I'm beyond thrilled to be at Michigan State," Sheridan said via MLive. "When I was a kid, my dad was coaching here, his players and the guys on that were really who I looked up to as a young boy and who I wanted to be like."
During that conversation, Sheridan had no trouble naming some real Spartan legends including Plaxico Burress, Amp Campbell, Sedrick Irvin, and Julian Peterson.
Even though he played at that other school, it appears Coach Sheridan is more than ready to help Michigan State football get back to where it belongs: the top of the Big Ten.
