We are just hours away from kickoff, and it's hard to believe that football is back. Friday's Michigan State vs. Western Michigan game will capture the attention of college football fans everywhere.
Michigan State isn't exactly a powerhouse these days after missing a bowl in three straight seasons, and Western Michigan is a middle-of-the-pack MAC program, but it feels like these two teams could surprise some people this season. The Spartans have the talent to turn things around in year two of Jonathan Smith, but it all needs to come together.
The Spartans were 5-7 a year ago, but they bring back pretty much everyone, including star quarterback Aidan Chiles and sophomore phenom Nick Marsh. The defensive side of the ball is a much bigger question mark. There's plenty of uncertainty on Joe Rossi's defense.
With just hours until kickoff, it's time to place those late-minute bets.
Here are the final odds (via DraftKings) for Friday's Michigan State vs. Western Michigan game:
Moneyline: Michigan State -1800 | Western Michigan +1000
Over/Under: 49.5
Line: Michigan State -21.5
The line has moved more in Michigan State's direction. The Spartans were about 19.5-point favorites just a day ago, but it's now up to 21.5 points. I'm not sure if I love that line, seeing as Michigan State almost never plays well in season openers (last year was a prime example).
Michigan State vs. Western Michigan prediction
I think this is your typical slow start to a season as Michigan State will come out of the gates a little sluggish, and the score will be something like 14-10 at halftime before the Spartans finally pull away late. Michigan State finds its footing in the second half to run away with a 34-17 win.
Final score: Western Michigan 17, Michigan State 34
