Being an agricultural college, believe it or not, has its perks. Michigan State is in the middle of one of those perks right now and it’s happening on a global stage.

Michigan State has been tasked with helping cultivate the best possible playing surface as the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada over the next few weeks. It has already been earning rave reviews through the first couple of weeks and Michigan State is being put on the global map because of what some players are saying about the turfgrass.

There have been no issues regarding the turfgrass during the World Cup to this point (knock on wood) and it’s actually been touted as one of the best playing surfaces that some of these players have ever competed on.

Don’t believe me? Just ask the United States’ own Antonee Robinson.

”It’s probably the best field I’ve ever played on in the States.”

That’s some incredibly high praise from a soccer player who has been just about everywhere and knows what a good playing surface consists of.

Michigan State can’t get all of the credit here, unfortunately. Michigan State has cultivated and had a helping hand in each of the 16 venues of the World Cup, but it’s in collaboration with FIFA and the University of Tennessee, per a Michigan State press release.

The three parties collaborating on the turfgrass have put a lot of time into perfecting each stadium’s turfgrass and each is different depending on the climate.

This is even further proof that if you want to work in agriculture, Michigan State is the place for you.

Michigan State’s grass extending beyond the World Cup

The pristine grass conditions at the World Cup are earning mostly rave reviews and it’s been such a success that even NFL players are wondering why they don’t play on the same surfaces.

In fact, according to a report, NFL players are overwhelmingly in favor of playing on a synthetic grass field made up of perfectly-crafted turfgrass than on astroturf. Michigan State’s great playing conditions have apparently swayed some of the best athletes from a different sport to want what the Spartans are cooking up in terms of turfgrass.

This collab with the World Cup and the success it’s seen should have nothing but positive impacts on Michigan State both monetarily and in regards to positive press.

If you want to see just how beautiful Michigan State’s engineered turfgrass looks, just tune in daily to the World Cup. You’ll see Michigan State represented by turfgrass in every single game.
