It’s been a rough year for Michigan State’s offensive line. The Spartans have been dealing with some injury issues, and the overall production has been lacking.
Some guys have exceeded expectations while others have really struggled. Plus, the Spartans lost promising interior lineman Luka Vincic for the season on an injury that he suffered against Youngstown State, and Stanton Ramil is out for about a month, too.
There’s been a lot of chatter after the Nebraska game about Ashton Lepo’s struggles, although he’s not the only guy on the offensive line who hasn’t held up for Aidan Chiles and Co.
One lineman, however, has been exceptional each week, and is now grading out as the best center in college football through the first six weeks. That lineman is none other than Wake Forest transfer and team captain Matt Gulbin.

According to Cam Mellon of PFSN, Gulbin has the best center grade in college football this season, tied for first with Florida’s Jake Slaughter.
Without Gulbin, who knows where this offensive line would be.
The veteran center from Wake Forest has been the best transfer portal addition from the offseason, and it’s a shame that Michigan State fans only get to watch him for one season. It’s been a while since the Spartans have had a truly elite offensive lineman (Luke Newman was close last year), but Gulbin has been holding his own in the middle this year.
Gulbin will be tested even more in the coming weeks as Michigan State will play Indiana, Michigan, and Penn State soon. The NFL is calling this dude’s name.
