Michigan State’s injury report vs. Michigan is somehow even worse than expected

This doesn’t even seem possible.

Just when you thought this season’s injuries couldn’t get any more insane, Michigan State dropped one heck of an availability report on Wednesday ahead of the Michigan game.

There was some good news regarding a few guys who were out over the past few weeks but the rest of it was all bad.

After a bye week, mind you, Michigan State is going to be down 13 players including seven players who have started this season. The most recent additions to the injury report are Marvis Parrish, Jayden Savoury, and Ben Roberts.

More than a dozen players will be missing the most important game left on the schedule.

Michigan State is down these starters:

Cam Edwards
Tre Bell
Jaziun Patterson
Charles Brantley
Jordan Hall
Marvis Parrish
Jayden Savoury
Ben Roberts

And yet it could still be without Devin Vaught and Alessio Milivojevic on Saturday in Ann Arbor. That would mean that nine (!!) players who have started games this season will be ruled out against a Michigan team that’s been guaranteeing victories and calling this game the Super Bowl for Michigan State.

As much as Michigan State will have all the motivation in the world to win this game during an otherwise forgettable season, it just might not have the horses.

Being down to an RB4, a QB2, a TE2, and backups all over the defense isn’t exactly the right recipe for an upset in Ann Arbor on Saturday night. We’ll see this team fight to the end because that’s what Pat Fitzgerald-coached teams do, but the talent discrepancy may be on full display with over a dozen Spartans out.

The bye week was supposed to get this team healthy.

The “next man up” is running low at Michigan State

Fitzgerald loves to say “next man up” when referring the Michigan State’s injuries and he’d be the last guy to make an excuse, but even he realizes that he’s running low on next men up.

First it was the secondary that was hit hard, and then the linebackers, and now the offensive side of the ball is getting beat up.

The Spartans are running low on running backs but fortunately Fitzgerald loaded that position up in the transfer portal last offseason. It’s going to come down to a combination of Kenneth Williams and Brandon Tullis more than likely. Both guys understand the rivalry so that may not be the worst thing.

At quarterback, Alessio could miss a second straight game which would give way to Kayd Coffman or Leo Hannan. A young guy starting under center in a hostile environment under the lights at the Big House could be a little scary.

No Hall, Roberts, Bell, Patterson, Parrish, Brantley, or Savoury? Scary, scary stuff.
