All week across the NHL, we’ve been seeing current, former, and future Michigan State players teaming up at development camps for their new teams.

Nine Spartan draftees got invited after just hearing their names called over the weekend, and a couple of them won’t be joining the roster until the 2027-28 season.

Nick Bogas is one of those 2027 class commits who won’t be joining Michigan State until next season — as of right now — but his FOMO (fear of missing out) with the team loaded and poised for a national title run this year may cause him to join the program early. He was a fifth-round pick by the St. Louis Blues over the weekend as they’ve now drafted a Spartan in two of the past three years.

The other Spartan drafted by the Blues was Colin Ralph, and he, too, is in St. Louis until Wednesday for the development camp. And he’s at a much different spot in his hockey career than Bogas.

The Blues shared their 2026 development camp invitees and Bogas will be in St. Louis until Wednesday along with Ralph. The future and former Michigan State defensemen will get to hang out a little bit and build a rapport as they may team up in St. Louis down the line.

Bogas should waste no time picking Ralph’s brain about his one season at Michigan State.

Colin Ralph, Nick Bogas are two ships passing in the night

Ralph just wrapped up his final collegiate season with Michigan State, totaling one goal and 10 assists in 37 games but the talented defenseman was +20 on the year. He is truly a defense-first defenseman which I’ve learned is a thing thanks to Elite Prospects.

The one-year Spartan signed an entry-level deal with the Blues following the 2025-26 season and he’ll be playing for the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds this season.

Bogas, on the other hand, still has a big decision to make. I’m going to assume that Nightingale tells him that there wouldn’t be a ton of playing time for him since Michigan State will have no shortage of defensemen, but it’s ultimately up to him. He could learn from Ralph at dev camp and feel confident enough to take his talents to East Lansing this season.

Although they just missed each other in East Lansing, they may eventually reunite in St. Louis.
