If there has been one shortcoming pertaining to Michigan State basketball over the past few years, it would have to be the post play. The Spartans have fallen short when it comes to their bigs, but that has been slowly changing this season with the uptick in production from Jaxon Kohler and Carson Cooper and the addition of Szymon Zapala.

Michigan State is still nowhere near the post production of teams like Purdue, Michigan, Maryland, and a few others in the Big Ten. Those teams have been able to pass into the post regularly and expect a basket from their bigs.

Not Michigan State -- at least not consistently enough.

However, that could soon be changing. Tom Izzo is working the upcoming recruiting classes for effective and efficient bigs and he actually landed one in the 2025 class in the form of Cam Ward.

Unfortunately, that doesn't address the center position, but a new recruiting development has perked Michigan State fans' ears up. Izzo is reportedly recruiting a physical 7-footer from Tennessee by the name of Gan-Erdene Solongo.

While the article from Jamie Shaw is behind a paywall and you can subscribe to read it, the graphic shows Michigan State as one of the four teams recruiting Solongo along with Butler, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.

And while he's not yet ranked according to recruiting services like 247Sports, Solongo will likely earn a ranking soon as he has some impressive tape and he's just what Michigan State needs down low.

Honestly, he's not going to wow anyone on tape, but he moves well for a 7-footer and he has a decent post game with moves that Spartan fans haven't seen consistently in years. He is just a bruiser down low and that's what Michigan State has been missing since Nick Ward and Xavier Tillman.

There's still a long way to go in this recruitment, but who says no to Izzo landing a physical 7-footer in the 2026 recruiting class? Not me.
