Monday wasn’t exactly a banner day for Michigan State football legend Le’Veon Bell.
The former Michigan State running back who became an instant NFL star has found himself in some legal trouble which is a disappointing turn in his career.
Not long ago, Le’Veon retired from football and tried his hand at boxing which has gone OK so far, going 2-1 with a match against Adrian Peterson. He’s reportedly made about $250,000 as a boxer and around $65 million as a star in the NFL with the Steelers, Chiefs, and Jets.
Unfortunately, he’s being taken to court for monetary reasons despite his reported $12 million net worth. He’s reportedly in jail for child support reasons, per TMZ.
Reports also indicate that Bell’s lawyer is denying the claims and they’re alleging that Bell took out his $50,000 pension to make a significant payment toward child support. It’s relatively apparent that he feels like he’s paying too much already based on his current income, but with an estimated net worth of about $12 million and hundreds of thousands of dollars from a brief boxing career, he’s probably expected to pay a healthy payment.
We’ll see what comes of this, but we’ll also wait for all the facts come out before jumping to any conclusions because that doesn’t get anyone anywhere. I’d hope Le’Veon does the right thing.
Le’Veon Bell is missed in East Lansing
Although he’s had some interesting stances on current events on social media, he’s still one of the most talented players to ever suit up for the green and white.
Bell was a legend while he was in East Lansing, rushing for 3,346 yards and 33 touchdowns in just three years. Mark Dantonio turned him into bell-cow and he was the main reason the Spartans made the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl instead of finishing 5-7 or 4-8. He had over 1,700 scrimmage yards that season.
Michigan State has had some pretty good running backs since like LJ Scott, Kenneth Walker III, and Nate Carter, and Cam Edwards will be looking to join them this season.
The UConn transfer is considered one of the best in the country.
