Shortly after winning the Great Lakes Invitational without star goaltender Trey Augustine, Michigan State hockey picked up a big commitment from NHL draft pick Tyson Jugnauth.

According to Nathaniel Bott, Jugnauth played 1.5 years at Wisconsin before joining the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL. He is second in the entire WHL in assists and has 45 points in 32 games and was a fourth-round draft pick by Seattle.

This is a big commitment for Adam Nightingale and Co.

Jugnauth spent 44 games between 2022-24 with Wisconsin where he finished with 17 points and five goals scored. He was selected in the fourth round by Seattle and has been a star in the WHL with the Winterhawks ever since. He has been on fire with Portland over the past 10 games, accounting for 18 points.

The former Badger has proven himself as one of the better defensemen in the WHL and he's going to join a program that has been touted as one of the best for development in college hockey.

The Spartans just continue to pick up steam on the ice and after winning their first Great Lakes Invitational title in 15 years, they added even more talent. And now they're going to get Trey Augustine back from the World Junior Championships to start the new year against Wisconsin.

Michigan State is the No. 1 team in the country right now, sitting at 15-2-1 and it's only getting better. It's amazing how much good Nightingale has done for this program in a few years.
