Michigan State hockey is in the midst of yet another strong season. The Spartans clearly have their eyes on the future, besides trying to score their third straight Big Ten title.

Head coach Adam Nightingale continues to bring in elite talent.

The elite talent that has been coming to East Lansing on the ice has been a privilege to see, especially when the current roster has 15 players who have been drafted into the NHL.

With Trey Augustine in his final season in the green and white, and off to the Detroit Red Wings following this year, the Spartans were able to find their next goaltender prospect. This new prospect marks the fourth player who was drafted into the NHL in the incoming 2026-27 recruiting class for Michigan State.

Michigan State hockey has its Trey Augustine replacement

Joshua Ravensbergen who was the 30th overall pick by the San Jose Sharks in the 2025 NHL Draft, made it official this week that he will be suiting up for the Spartans next season.

Ravensbergen currently plays for the Prince George Cougars in the WHL. He's been a steady guy in the net during his time in the WHL with a .907 save percentage. Not to mention, he has a 78-26-5 in 118 games.

The Spartans are getting yet another high-end prospect. The North Vancouver, British Columbia, native continues to showcase the new direction for players from Canada to make the trip to the United States to play college hockey.

The Spartans have been able to secure elite talent, and the chance for the Spartans to go from one elite goalie in Augustine to another one in Ravensbergen is a great opportunity to keep things rolling.

Not to mention, pairing Ravensbergen with Melvin Strahl, who has also been drafted into the NHL in a previous year, will make for a nice duo for the Spartans.

It's clear that Michigan State hockey is back.
