Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith has made it pretty clear which positions he's most interested in targeting in the transfer portal and he has prioritized the trenches, defensive backfield, and wide receiver through the first part of the portal window.

Smith has addressed the trenches with a few offensive line additions, the defensive backfield with a handful of quality transfers, and the receiver position with two all-conference guys from the Group of Five.

It looks like Smith might still be interested in adding another receiver.

According to The Portal Report, Michigan State is one of a handful of teams that has reached out to Georgia and Purdue transfer wideout CJ Smith.

Smith has since scheduled a couple of visits, but this interest is recent and it shows that maybe the Spartans aren't done adding to that receiving corps which is currently led by Nick Marsh, Chrishon McCray, and Omari Kelly.

Picking up a commitment from a former national champion who had six catches for 116 yards with Georgia in 12 games and who played just three games with Purdue this past season would be huge.

Smith has solid size at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds and he could be a nice change-of-pace receiver for a guy like McCray. He will bring the size to the table that Aidan Chiles could use when he's in the red zone and he also has big-play ability as evidenced by his 19.3 yards per catch at Georgia.

We'll see if this interest materializes into an actual visit and if that's the case, I would like Michigan State's chances against the other teams on his list.
