The past month for Michigan State football has been one of the most forgettable. The Spartans lost a recruit to Alabama, missed a bowl game, and now they are reportedly losing one of their top assistant coaches to a fellow Big Ten program.

According to reports, defensive backs coach and ace recruiter Demetrice Martin is headed back out west to UCLA to coach the same position group there as well as being the passing game coordinator.

Obviously this is horrible news considering the fact that signing day is approaching and he's the reason Michigan State was able to improve the secondary and helped the Spartans land a number of recruits as well as transfers.

Losing him to the same position at a program that isn't his alma mater is a head-scratcher. It truly makes no sense but it looks like he's going to be headed back out to the West Coast.

In case you forgot, he came to Michigan State (his alma mater) to lead the defensive backs along with Blue Adams after leaving Oregon. He left one of the most loaded teams in the nation to coach at his alma mater again which seems like the job that he had been hoping for. It's hard to believe that he's leaving after just one year for the same position at a school that's arguably less interested in its football program.

Tough loss doesn't even begin to describe this one.

Hopefully this doesn't affect the 2025 class too much before signing day, but one cornerback commit has already alluded to an important decision needing to be made.
