Michigan State football picked up an important commitment on Monday evening.

Shortly after announcing the hires of Wake Forest's James Adams and Oregon State's Jon Boyer as the safeties and quarterbacks coaches, respectively, Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith picked up a big-time commitment from former four-star linebacker Aisea Moa.

The BYU linebacker just visited Michigan State this past weekend and raved about his time in East Lansing. He seemed to connect enough with the coaching staff and the players to commit just days later. Moa becomes the 13th member of Michigan State's 2025 transfer class.

Moa was a four-star recruit in the 2022 class, ranking No. 4 in the state of Utah and he was considered an athlete who played multiple positions and was even recruited along the defensive line. He played linebacker at BYU, totaling 17 tackles and a forced fumble over the past two seasons after redshirting in 2022.

Michigan State could use the linebacker depth after losing Cal Haladay and Jordan Turner and despite returning Wayne Matthews III, Jordan Hall, Brady Pretzlaff, Darius Snow, and others.

This commitment was not just big for the 2025 season because Moa will likely have a major impact on the defense but it's also important for the future of the program. Moa's younger brother, Salesi Moa, is a top-40 recruit in the 2026 class, per 247Sports, and Michigan State just offered him over the weekend while his older brother was taking a visit.

Jonathan Smith has been putting in the work and the results are showing. The anticipation for the 2025 season is building and Monday was a good day for the immediate outlook.
