Just hours after entering the transfer portal, Kent State wideout Chrishon McCray was offered by Michigan State football and then planned a visit to East Lansing.
It's been an eventful past week for the talented wide receiver from Kent State. His season ended a week ago as the Golden Flashes capped off another disappointing season, going just 1-23 over the past two seasons, but McCray was one of the lone bright spots amid the struggles.
On Dec. 5, McCray was named to the All-MAC second-team offense after catching 40 passes for 705 yards and nine touchdowns this season for Kent State. He had over 600 yards and four touchdowns the previous season in his first full year as a starter. Four days later, he's in the transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility left.
McCray is an explosive wideout who can take the top off a defense and had four touchdown catches of at least 55 yards this season, according to Justin Thind.
Despite being in the portal for a mere hours, McCray has already received a ton of interest, getting offers from Michigan State, North Carolina, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, and South Florida, according to his X account. He'll likely be pursued by more Power Four schools in the coming days and weeks.
Jonathan Smith needs to move fast here and getting him on campus for a visit immediately is a strong move. He can sell that starting spot in the receiving corps on a team that should push for a bowl berth in 2025 and potentially a playoff spot (if the program grows at a decent pace) in 2026.
An All-MAC transfer wide receiver considering Michigan State? Maybe we should have McCray talk to Jayden Reed about how smart that decision would be.
