Pat Fitzgerald has bolstered the trenches so far this offseason despite losing some key pieces like Stanton Ramil and Rustin Young.

The first-year Michigan State football coach landed Ben Murawski and Nick Sharpe before picking up a massive commitment on Wednesday in FCS All-American lineman Trent Fraley from North Dakota State.

Fraley was one of the best centers in the FCS this past season and he helped the Bison to a perfect 12-0 regular season and it looked like they would be cruising to the FCS national title game, but they were shockingly upset in the second round of the playoffs by Illinois State.

Still, he paved the way for one of the best offenses in the FCS and he earned All-American honors. He’ll now be Matt Gulbin’s replacement after the Wake Forest transfer had an impressive senior season in East Lansing.

The offensive line is coming together nicely. Nick Tabacca has to be thrilled.

Michigan State’s offensive line might finally be a strength

Since Tabacca was hired, there have been several big changes to the offensive line. The Spartans lost guys like Young, Ramil, Kristian Phillips, Cole Dellinger, and Gavin Broscious, but they’ve also brought in some key players while also returning AJ Dennis and Conner Moore, among others.

The Spartans brought in Murawski as one of the first transfers under Fitzgerald before swiping Nick Sharpe from South Carolina to play on the interior.

The addition of Fraley was the icing on the cake seeing as he was a sought-after FCS transfer with programs like Penn State and Florida State pushing hard to land him. He opted to make the move to East Lansing, just down the road from where his dad, Hank Fraley, works — he’s the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

Fraley had his choice of where to go, and he opted to put his trust in Fitzgerald and Tabacca, and he brings a winning mentality to East Lansing with him.

In two years at North Dakota State, he was one of the best offensive linemen at the FCS level. He started his career at Marshall before transferring to NDSU.

Michigan State’s offensive line just got a whole lot better this offseason.
