Michigan State football made some serious moves on Monday afternoon both in its 2025 transfer class and on the coaching staff.

The Spartans landed a couple of transfers that should no doubt help things in East Lansing for the next year or two but they also picked up two coaching hires in James Adams from Wake Forest to coach safeties and Jon Boyer from Oregon State to coach quarterbacks.

With the departure of Demetrice Martin as a defensive backs coach, there was some worry that the position group would take a hit unless the perfect replacement was hired.

And it seems like Adams has been just that.

Shortly after the Adams hire was announced, three-star cornerback signee Aydan West tweeted his support for his new safeties coach. He congratulated him on X, calling him a great coach and a great man. He also referred to him as "my guy" which is a great sign.

Seeing current and future players back a hire like this is important because the culture hinges on these guys buying into the coaching staff. If the players don't believe in the staff, everything will fall apart. Fortunately, it looks like Jonathan Smith made the right move here because one of the main commitments in the 2025 class approves.

If you don't recall, West was being courted by Ohio State and Virginia Tech leading up to early signing day and he decided to stick with the Spartans despite Martin leaving for UCLA. So for him to double down and love this hire says a lot about his belief in the program.

Michigan State made the right hires on Monday.
