Michigan State fans disgusted by the Spartans’ 2026 NCAA Tournament draw

The selection committee has done it again.

Are we even surprised at this point? Michigan State being placed in the same region as Duke is the most predictable result of all time, but the Spartans faced the Blue Devils once already this season and that came down to the wire.

The Spartans didn’t just get Duke’s region, but they also got UConn, Kansas, St. John’s, Louisville, and UCLA. That’s an absolutely loaded region with a handful of blue bloods and programs that have been national title contenders for years.

Dan Hurley, Tom Izzo, Jon Scheyer, Bill Self, and Rick Pitino all in the same region? This is just loaded in terms of great coaches as well as big brands.

Unlike most years, Michigan State fans didn’t have to wait very long to hear where the Spartans would be seeded as they got the 3-seed in the first region announced. That didn’t make Michigan State fans feel any better about the draw, however. Being in the region with Duke, UConn, St. John’s, Louisville, Kansas, and UCLA is not exactly favorable.

And not only did the Spartans lose the 2-seed that they’ve been holding on to since that win at Purdue a couple of weeks ago, but they lost it to those Boilermakers who won the Big Ten Tournament — something that was never valued highly before.

Surprisingly, it wasn’t just Michigan State fans who were scratching their heads over the 3-seed.

That tweet is spot on. Michigan State has won the Big Ten Tournament before and it didn’t affect its seeding at all. Purdue wins it and the seventh-seeded Boilermakers go from a projected 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament all the way up to a 2-seed. That’s just insane.

Michigan State and Purdue have eerily similar resumes, and the Spartans won head to head, but the Boilermakers get the 2-seed? Make that make sense.

Michigan State fans were fired up over the draw

As you can imagine, Michigan State fans didn’t take the draw and the lost 2-seed very well. Non-Michigan State fans were also surprised by the tough regional draw.

You know it’s a brutal draw when Michigan fans are saying that Michigan State should have been a draw and being punished with Duke is egregious.

Disappointed but not surprised.
