Happy NBA draft decision day to all who celebrate. Michigan State fans are going to be celebrating a little more than most fanbases, and not by choice.

Jeremy Fears Jr. is has until 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday night to decide if he’s going to stay in the NBA draft or return to Michigan State. While he may have made his decision behind the scenes and both his family and coaching staff might know, the entire fanbase and everyone else is left in the dark. Only Jeremy really knows what he’s going to do.

Although they weren’t worried about two weeks ago, Michigan State fans are now on pins and needles awaiting any kind of positive news regarding Fears.

There have been plenty of reports about NBA draft experts and executives advising that Fears return to Michigan State for another season, but his dad has been heavy posting on social media about the NBA Combine, not paying attention to mock drafts, and steering clear of analytics and instead using the eye test. It’s pretty clear that his dad wants him in the NBA.

But you’d have to think that the smart decision will be made in the end. It doesn’t make a ton of sense for Fears to be a second-round pick, at best, and play in the G-League in front of a few hundred fans when he could return to Michigan State, make at least double what he’d make as a second-rounder, and chase a national title while having tens of thousands of fans on your side.

The wise decision would be returning to build a first-round stock and then leaving when that’s been achieved which could very well be this time next year.

Of course we all have to wait until the final day to decide to hear anything.

One way or another, the stress ends on Wednesday night

Michigan State fans cannot wait until that clock strikes midnight because that will mean that the waiting game for Fears will officially be over and we’ll all know what his decision is.

The stress of not knowing for the past two weeks while both Fears and his dad have been posting about ignoring the outside noise and mock drafts and that no one else knows what’s best for the All-American point guard but him. The social media posts have really stirred up the fanbase and no one knows what to expect.

But the consensus opinion among the fanbase is that he returns.

If that’s the case, Michigan State has a national title contender and one of the most complete teams in the Izzo era. If he leaves, well, it might be a long season.

The wait is almost over.
