For a second straight week, Michigan State basketball comes in at No. 8 in the AP Top 25. The Spartans didn't budge from last week's ranking where they moved up from No. 14 after beating Purdue and Michigan, which makes little sense seeing as they beat two more ranked opponents.
Some thought that Michigan State might jump Alabama, who lost at Tennessee, or St. John's who struggled until late to pull away from a bad Seton Hall team.
But AP voters apparently weren't impressed enough with Michigan State's win at No. 16 Maryland or nine-point victory over No. 11 Wisconsin to move them up a spot or two. Michigan State has won four straight games against ranked opponents and five straight Quad 1 games with three of them coming on the road and it's only been enough to move them from No. 14 to No. 8 in the poll.
Crazy.
Michigan State still has two more opportunities to earn Quad 1 wins in the final week of the regular season, going to Iowa on Wednesday and then coming home to face No. 17 Michigan on senior day in East Lansing. Speaking of the Wolverines, they only dropped two spots in this week's rankings despite needing a buzzer-beater to beat a 14-14 Rutgers team at home and then losing at home to Illinois by 20.
This week's AP Top 25 doesn't make a ton of sense, especially with losses not affecting teams like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Alabama.
Just take care of business from here on out and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament is still possible.
