We are a little over a week away from Big Ten Media Days kicking off in Rosemont, Ill., for both men’s and women’s Michigan State basketball teams.
The Spartans get to send their handpicked representatives to the event to really give the media an insight into the program. It’s always interesting to see which players get selected to attend the event with head coach Tom Izzo, and this year’s attendees aren’t all that surprising.
Well, one of them may be rather surprising given the fact that no one saw him being a captain when he came in with a loaded 2023 basketball recruiting class. Only two members of that class remain on the roster as Xavier Booker and Gehrig Normand both transferred out.
Michigan State’s two representatives are Coen Carr and Jeremy Fears Jr.

I’m a little surprised that Izzo went with two non-seniors with captains like Jaxon Kohler and Carson Cooper available, but that just goes to show how much these two have stepped up as team leaders. Both are also captains, but both still have eligibility left after this season — Carr has one year and Fears has two.
Michigan State fans are begging for any basketball news as the season nears its tip-off, especially with the football team’s defense seemingly holding it back from a special year. Hockey is also right around the corner as the Spartans have been ranked No. 3 to start the season. Their first exhibition is this week against Windsor.
We’ll get some good tidbits from Izzo, Carr, and Fears next week as they represent the program as the reigning Big Ten champs at media days.
