For the fifth straight game, Michigan State basketball secured a Quad 1 win on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans beat a really good Wisconsin team 71-62 in East Lansing to improve to 24-5 overall and 15-3 in conference play, moving into sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.
These five straight Quad 1 wins over Illinois, Purdue, Michigan, Maryland, and Wisconsin are not only impressive but they mark the first time this season that any team has accomplished this feat.
That's right, no team in college basketball had won five straight Quad 1 games until Michigan State finished off that stretch on Sunday afternoon. If that's not a statement in the push for a No. 1 seed, I don't know what is.
Michigan State is the 4th team this season to get to 10 Q1 wins. The only team to win 5 consecutive Q1 games.

The Spartans are also just the fourth team in the country to earn 10 Quad 1 wins, joining Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn. The Tigers are in first place by a wide margin with 16 Quad 1 victories while the Spartans, Crimson Tide, and Volunteers are all tied for second with 10.
And there's still a chance to add two more and finish the regular season with seven straight and five ranked wins in a six-game stretch. It would be one of the most impressive stretches of the Tom Izzo era.
Izzo has done an incredible job with this year's team after losing guys like Tyson Walker, AJ Hoggard, and Malik Hall. It's been insane to see how successful this team has been for as young as it is -- the only seniors are Jaden Akins, Szymon Zapala, and Frankie Fidler.
Let's keep this train rolling, shall we?
