The Rocket Watts trade is almost complete. OK, all jokes aside, Michigan State basketball has identified another transfer target and he started his high-major career at Mississippi State.

About a week after adding Kaleb Glenn via the transfer portal, Michigan State has identified a second transfer target and it's been kept under wraps for days now.

This target is reportedly Trey Fort from Samford.

Fort, a sixth-year senior from Samford, played his first collegiate season at UT Martin before transferring to the JUCO level where he became the No. 1 player at that level before committing to Mississippi State for the 2023-24 season. He then transferred to Samford for the 2024-25 season where he finally broke out, averaging 14.6 points, 4.0 points, and 2.8 assists per game. He did shoot about 38 percent from deep and 44 percent from the floor.

This is likely who Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo is targeting to help replace the production lost when Tre Holloman hit the portal and Jase Richardson entered the NBA draft.

According to Thind's free article above, it sounds like Michigan State will also target a backup point guard to complement Jeremy Fears Jr. If the Spartans can land Fort, they would likely have room to add another guard and fill out the roster with solid, veteran talent.

Like Glenn, Fort also faced Michigan State this past season and didn't have his best game, shooting 1-for-8 from the floor with four points, four rebounds, and two assists. He did have some massive games, showcasing his scoring ability, finishing with at least 24 points in three of his final six games to end the 2024-25 season.

A veteran shooting guard who has played at the high major level and got better after transferring down a level and who can shoot at a high rate? Yes, please.
